Summer Reading
2010 Summer Reading Instructions
Because the faculty strongly believes that students should continue to read during the summer months, we are providing suggested lists for grades 1-4. Summer reading lists were sent home with students in grades 1-7 in their report card envelope on Friday, June 11, 2010.
Incoming 1-4 graders:
Check out the suggested reading list compiled by Mrs. Neitzey. No required reading, but she does hope students will read a little bit every day. And of course they love to be read to or to read along with their favorite adult or older brother or sister!
Incoming fifth graders:
Must read 2 books from the suggested reading list and complete a SPX summer reading form for each book. The summer reading forms must be signed by a parent and returned to Mrs. Kunz the first day of school.
Incoming sixth graders:
Must read Rules by Cynthia Lord and complete 4 activity sheets. Students need to bring the activity sheets to reading class in September along with their copy of Rules. Students must also choose a book from the suggested reading list and complete a SPX Novel Review Form and return it to their reading teacher the first day of school.
Incoming seventh graders:
Must read Journey to Jo`Burg by Beverley Naidoo and complete the SPX Summer Reading Review Form - Fiction. The completed form and their copy of Journey to Jo`burg should be brought to reading class on the first day of school. Students must also choose a book from the suggested reading list, read it, and complete a SPX Novel Review Form for that title. The form should be returned to their reading teacher the first day of school.
Incoming eighth graders:
Must read Nothing But the Truth: A Documentary Novel by Avi and complete the SPX Summer Reading Review Form - Fiction. Students are to bring the form and their copy of Nothing But the Truth to their reading class the first day of school. They must also choose a book from the suggested reading list, read it and complete a SPX Novel Review form for that book as well. The form should be turned in on the first day of school.
